Palestine Day on Palestine Way
A Day of Resilience and Representation
May 19, 2024 | 1 to 6 pm
The Palestinian American Community Center of New Jersey is honored to announce this year’s Palestine Day On Palestine Way: A Day of Resilience and Representation, on Sunday, May 19, 2024 from 1 PM to 6 PM between Gould Ave and Grove Street.
At PACC, we have and will always center our work on sustaining Palestinian heritage, education, and pride in our local community and national diaspora. We do so by upholding lessons of Palestinian resilience, joy, and steadfastness in the face of erasure, censorship, and intimidation. The last year, the last 76 years, and beyond have tested our people, our steadfastness and our resilience. As we witness the televised genocide over the last 7 months, our hearts, minds and souls go out to our Palestinian brothers and sisters on the ground. As we watch our people in Gaza with bleeding hearts and as we watch the active attempt to erase Gaza, we increase our advocacy, education, and Palestinian programming with the goal of keeping Palestine alive for us today and for generations to come. We do this by proudly coming together in the face of erasure. This means continuing to show up loudly and proudly and taking up space despite ongoing efforts to silence us. However, we recognize that showing up does not look the same as it always has,so we have reshifted our work to represent the current moment. We’ve had to make decisions of which events and programming to keep and which to do away with, and which to transform. After deep thought and consideration, we have decided to restructure our annual Palestine Way Street Festival and rebrand it: Palestine Day on Palestine Way. It is meant to be a day to come together as a community and show our resilience, persistence and endurance despite the unimaginable pain our community has been through. Instead of music, singers, and Dabka, we plan on inviting inspirational speakers and performers who share Palestinian traditions and identity in their work. We will continue to highlight and honor the Palestinian businesses that make up our vibrant community, who have worked tirelessly to make the city of Paterson and South Paterson specifically known as Little Palestine. Our community has made it the hub of Palestinian culture and pride.
We hope you join us this year not for a day of celebration, but for a day of resilience, Palestinian pride, and community. We will host various local vendors and businesses that support Palestine, offer Palestine education for all ages, and get our community ready to have their voices civically heard this election season and beyond.
On May 19, join us for Palestine Day on Palestine Way as we vow to keep Palestine alive today, tomorrow and always until Palestine is Free!
