Yasmine Husseini 2024
Yasmine Husseini is a Political Science student studying at Rutgers University. Growing up in Central New Jersey in a community with lack of Arab representation & misinformation, she witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by those whose voices are marginalized. These experiences shaped her perspective and fueled her passion for addressing inequities and advocacy for the Arab community. Advocacy and Nonprofit organization work became a source of inspiration for her as she witnessed how they could create meaningful change and amplify marginalized voices. She hopes to use her education and passion to empower communities to work toward a more inclusive and equitable society for our people. |
Kamal Almashharawi 2024
Kamal Almashharawi's journey is a testament to courage and resilience. Growing up in Gaza, he faced the unrelenting challenges of life under siege, where daily survival was anything but guaranteed. This past year, Kamal and his family -- who's here with us -- endured harrowing experiences, navigating multiple death occasions during the war on Gaza. Moving from city to city in search of safety, they witnessed devastation all around him but refused to let despair take hold. Ultimately, Kamal found a path to safety, escaping the chaos and arriving in NJ to pursue his dream of making a difference through the law. Now a Juris Doctor candidate at Rutgers Law School, Kamal channels his profound experiences into a commitment to justice and rebuilding his community. Though Kamal cannot be here tonight, as he is preparing for his Torts exam tomorrow, his family is attending on his behalf. Please join me in welcoming them with the same kindness and support that Kamal carries in his heart. Their presence here is a beautiful reminder of the strength of family and the enduring hope that fuels Kamal’s journey. |
